The client, Otis Cooke spent most of his life travelling to places like Memphis and Detroit uncovering soul music from the 1950s-70s. He has a strong passion for soul music and aims to bring back this style of music to Melbourne. He is opening a local vinyl store in Brunswick St, Fitzroy and plans to call his new store ‘Energy on Wax’ which is inspired by Steve Cropper on his description of soul music as ‘selling energy’. He requires a brand identity for the new record store which includes a logo, typography, colour palette and stickers. He also requires an advertising poster to attract new customers to the store.

The client Otis Cooke also requires a unique package design which will be used to place and protect purchased records for customers to take home. He has requested the package design also be used to present purchased records as home giving the audience a brand-new experience of opening records. The packaging concept includes an accordion fold design that allows storage of multiple records, whilst remaining flat. The packaging incorporates the branding of the store and features a fold-out stand that allows the records to stand horizontally which can be used as a ‘show piece’ at the customer’s homes.
