Sebastien Warrillow

My focus for this year in my art was to recreate the imagery that I conceived within my own mind while reading and putting this to paper or canvas. I have always been an avid reader, relishing in the way novels and reading in general can transport one to an entirely different plane of thought, far away from the stresses and worries of everyday life and being immersed in a world that is not our own. I was also heavily influenced by the art of portraiture, creating life-like faces that contain all the emotion and expression that a real-life person would, combining these two into creating faces of my favourite book characters using my own imagination. I drew my biggest inspiration from the works of Robin Hobb, arguably my favourite author and the characters and settings that she can fabricate on paper and engrain into the minds or her readers. I recreated both characters and settings within my works this year, such as watercolour on collaged paper titled ‘Changer’ depicting the main protagonist of 3 of Hobb’s Trilogies, as well as the many places he travelled to throughout his adventures.
